Bag Versus: Dior Lily versus Lady Dior

Categories:Other Brands

For this new edition of Bag Versus, we have compared two Dior bags: the iconic Lady Dior and the newest Lily Bag. Both bags features the cannage pattern, although there are other materials also available. They also have top handles and adjustable/removable shoulder strap.

Lady Dior Mini Bag

Dior Lady Dior Bag

Although Dior currently has four sizes, Micro, Mini, Medium and Large, (soon it will be 5, with the addition of the Small size) the Mini size is the best to compare to the Lily Bag. Measuring at 6.7″ W x 5.9″ H x 2.8″ D. The top opens with a flap top that is inserted inside the bag. It can be worn three ways, by hand, on the shoulder or across the body. The interior is made of jacquard fabric and has a zipped pocket. Prices vary depending on materials used, the Cannage pattern in lambskin is priced at $  (USD)

Lily Bag

Dior’s newest offering is the Lily Bag from the Fall/Winter 2016 Collection. It looks similar to the Lady Dior bag, only this one has a bowling shape. The bag measures at 7.7″ W x 6.3″ H x 3.7″ D. This bag can also be carried by hand, on the shoulder and across the body. The interior is made of soft lambskin and has 2 long side pockets. The Lily starts at $  (USD) for the Cannage in lambskin. Other materials include Alligator, Dior print fabric, and pony-effect calfskin.

Conclusion

Although the Lady Dior remains a classic piece, the Lily wins this round as it has more style and elegance. The bag’s feminine touch has a lovely look. The rounded shape makes it more interesting which is perfect to use from day to night.

LOUIS VUITTON EPI CLUNY BAG VERSUS SAINT LAURENT MOUJIK BAG

Categories:Louis Vuitton

Louis-Vuitton-Epi-Cluny-Bag-versus-Saint-Laurent-Moujik-Bag

Louis-Vuitton-Epi-Cluny-Bag-versus-Saint-Laurent-Moujik-Bag-2

It’s a battle of bag (and brand) supremacy today, as we face-off two of the most established handbags in the history of high fashion – the Louis Vuitton Epi Cluny versus the Saint Laurent Moujik Bag. Two equally gorgeous arm candies vying for a spot in our hearts…with a structure that’s unmistakably so similar, what makes them stand-out from one another? Tune in as we dig deeper into the details.

Round 1: Crunching numbers

First, we’ve got to come clean with the details – the Epi Cluny (for reference, we are using the standard Cluny MM), a classic favorite, measures around 12.5″ x 9″ x 4.9″ inches (L x H x W). On the other hand, the Moujik measures around 12.1” x 9.4” x 5.5” inches (L x H x W), which barely makes it a bit bigger. A little space wouldn’t hurt, though. For this round, the Moujik emerges as the obvious winner, by a close call.

Round 2: Material

Both of these babies are structured bags, which make the designs streamlined. The Moujik is a pretty piece which is made of calf leather, which is known for its softness and fine grain. Very durable, indeed. Meanwhile, the Epi cowhide leather which LV is known for is grained and textured, and is equally easy to maintain. Although it’s basically anyone’s game, we decide that the Epi Cluny stands out at this point – the unique characteristic of the material had us sold.

Round 3: Nitty-gritty details

The Epi Cluny and Moujik are both winners in the minimalist department, because most of the time, less is more. Both of them have magnetic snap closure, and extra compartments for you to store your valuables.

Although we would like to point out that at this round, the Moujik caught our eyes with the subtle details – with a removable metal padlock and leather-encased keyring, we just find this Saint Laurent favorite too irresistible. On the other hand, the Epi Cluny decides to keep it on the low with minimal silver hardware, which is beautiful too. Obviously, we have to give this round to the Moujik.

Round 4: Color-coded

The availability of colors and variations of a bag are important too – it makes us consider a wise purchase from an obvious flop. In this round, the Epi Cluny gives us more choices – with four great colors to choose from (Grenade, Rosa Ballerine, Dune, and Noir). The Moujik comes in two basic colors (Black and Lipstick Red), and even a variation that has a front flap with an embossed crocodile effect. And because we love our bashful neutrals, this round goes to the Epi Cluny.

Round 5: Pricetag

The Epi Cluny MM is priced at $2870 USD or €1980 EUR, while the Moujik sells at $2490 USD up to $3850 USD for the embossed crocodile variation. This round, we’ve declared a draw between both bags, since the differences in material and fluctuations of currency and rates make it difficult to determine a winner.

At this point, the decision is up to you. So, have you determined your next purchase? Comment below to let us find out what you think!

Celine Tie Tote Bag Versus the Classic Phantom Tote Bag

Categories:Other Brands

Here’s a new edition of Bag Versus featuring Celine’s Tie Bag and Phantom Bag. These two totes both feature extended gussets, allowing the bag to be bigger and having more space. They both have two top handles, and almost the same shape. So when it comes to choosing either one, which bag comes out on top?

Phantom Bag

Celine Phantom Bag
The Phantom Bag was first released in 2011, which is an updated version of the Mini Luggage Bag. It has an open top, with braided zip details on its front pocket. The bag’s wings can be tuck or extended. The bag comes in variety of materials, and price depends on the leather used.  Compared to the Tie bag it doesn’t have a closure; however its shopping style makes it easy and relatively lightweight to carry. The bag itself is quite large spanning approximately 12″ at the Medium size; however over time it does soften and become a less boxy bag to carry.

Celine Leather Phantom Medium Bag $3,100.00 (USD) 12” W x 11” H x 9” D
Celine Nubuck Phantom Medium Bag $2,950.00 (USD)
Celine Python Phantom Medium Bag $6,200 (USD)
Celine Phantom Large Bag £2,300.00 ($3,500 USD) 14” W x 13” H x 11” D

Tie Bag

Celine Tie Bag
The Tie Bag came out in 2013, as part of the brand’s Winter 2013 Collection. The bag’s name is taken from its design which features knotted or tied handles. It comes in three sizes, Mini, Small and Medium. It includes a small pouch in all sizes except the mini. The bag is quite heavy and the Mini is the most ideal size among the three. Compared to Phantom the Tie bag has the more updated Celine look and feel in terms of style as the Phantom has been around for many years.

Celine Palmelatto Tie Tote Mini Bag $3,600.00 (USD) 10” x 9” x 7”
Celine Crisp Leather Tie Tote Mini Bag $3,300.00 (USD)
Celine Natural Calfskin Tie Tote Small Bag $3,800.00 (USD) 13” x 11” 8”
Celine Crisp Leather Tie Tote Small Bag $3,500.00 (USD) 13” x 11” 8”
Celine Crisp Leather Tie Tote Large Bag $3,700.00 (USD) 15.5″ x 10.75″ x 9″

Conclusion

For an everyday bag with the most current look the Tie Tote bag is the winner in the mini size. The fact that the phantom doesn’t come in a smaller size than the medium (at the moment) makes it less of a versatile bag than the Celine Tie Tote. An added bonus is the front closure on the Tie that isn’t available on the Phantom. For those that enjoy the Phantom look the Mini Luggages are also a great alternative as it has a zipper closure.

Saint Laurent Monogramme Shopper Versus the Shoulder Bag

Categories:Other Brands

This a new series called ‘Bag Versus’ where we evaluate similar bags and determine what’s a better buy over another bag pitting them against each other.  This series will begin by evaluating the Saint Laurent Monogramme series with the classic ‘YSL’ logo that has been created in a number of styles.  Two styles that are similar but different include the latest ‘Saint Laurent Monogramme Shopper Tote‘ and the ‘Saint Laurent Monogramme Shoulder Bag’.

At a glance these two bags appear very similar. Both have the same strap, they have the same price point (about $2,550 USD) and the also have similar boxy shapes.

So if you had to choose, which one is better? Here’s a run down of pros and cons of each.

The Saint Laurent Monogramme Shopper

Saint Laurent Blue Classic Monogramme Saint Laurent Shopping Bag - Spring 2014

Pros

It features a convenient centre zippered enclosures, similar to that of the GST. However, at $2,550 USD it’s just $350 lower than the Classic Chanel GST which is priced at $2,900 USD.  This Shopper Tote features a top tab closure the securely fastens closed on the front of the flap. It measures about 13.75″ across making it a good everyday city bag with an interior depth of 4.5″.

Cons

The simple certain tab doesn’t exactly ensure that items can’t fall out of your bag. Imagine tipping the bag over, most likely small items like wallets and cell-phones that are not kept securely in the center zip could fall out.

The Saint Laurent Monogramme Shoulder

Saint Laurent Blue Classic Monogramme Saint Laurent Large Satchel Bag - Spring 2014

Pros

The Saint Laurent Monogramme Shoulder bag features a large ‘YSL’ logo on the front, which can be a positive item. The tab could also be a negative item for those that want a more subdued and less flashy 80’s look.  The bag measures at around 12.25″ which is just one inch shy of the shopper tote, which makes it a lighter bag and smaller in stature.  This bag could also be transferred to a clutch since the bag has a narrow depth at only 3 inches, which makes the bag more versatile than the shopper.

The shoulder bag fastenes securely in the front, and the flap will prevent your items from falling out of it easily.

Cons

The interior of the Shoulder bag is pretty minimal. There is one large opening and a pretty narrow interior pocket. There isn’t too much in terms of interior organization, unlike the shopper tote, which has more compartments. However, the interior depth of three inches does allow you to view the contents fairly well, so there would be limited instances of rummaging the interior of your purse.

Conclusion

As with any purchase, it really depends on what you already have in your current arsenal. However, the Monogramme Shoulder bag is probably the best choice of the two since it can serve dual purposes, as an every day city bag and an evening bag.
