Louis Vuitton Petite Malle iTrunk

Known as the Petite Malle iPhone case, or the iTrunk, these have to be the most talked about iPhones this season yet, after Louis Vuitton’s Nicolas Ghesquière first teased social media with a shot of him using the case before they were seen coming down the runway during LV’s Spring-Summer 2017 runway presentation in Paris.

The most talked about bit regarding the cases isn’t whether we all want one, or which combination should we get, rather, it’s the selling price, which in Singapore is almost the same as getting a new iPhone7 without contract. Yes, folks, the cases retail for SGD1600 and SGD1710 for the iPhone7 (which also  fit the iPhone6Plus, by the way) and iPhone7Plus cases respectively, which even for me isn’t exactly chump change.

And while I can tell you why you shouldn’t get one (it’s much too expensive, and isn’t a new iPhone supposed to be released this year as well), these are still the only two reasons against. The list of reasons for, however, is much longer.

Besides the fact that they are beautifully crafted, each made to resemble a vertical Petite Malle (oh, how cute is that), it’s also rather hefty, a solid piece of Italian craftsmanship that isn’t flimsy or likely to fall apart in days. Made up of two parts, you take the case apart at the ‘lock’ (see the seam on the pieces shown above?), which you then proceed to slide your phone into, before snapping them together in a beautiful click.

Yes, the sound it makes, it’s a beautiful click, one that will be strangely reassuring despite the fact that you’ll be eating bread for the next 3 months. But no matter, because besides being a beautiful case, it’s also destined to be a collectible that no die-hard fan of Louis Vuitton should be without. Available in Monogram Canvas, Monogram Eclipse and Monogram Reverse for the basic models, I hear there are others (which will retail at higher prices) will include those in Epi as well as exotic skins.

If you aren’t convinced (and I don’t blame you), head down to any Louis Vuitton in Singapore and kindly request to see one. Yes, actual pieces are already available locally, and while you might not be able to walk out with one immediately, you could put yourself down on the waitlist and be allotted one as soon as more stocks prevail.

Louis Vuitton S/S17 Petite Malle iPhone Cases

IMAGES: VOGUE

Sure there were bags galore that came down the runway during Louis Vuitton’sSpring-Summer 2017 presentation in Paris held just yesterday. Some old, some new and if I might add now, some that are really pretty as well. But the one thing that enthralled everyone at the show and on social media has got to be these: Petite Malle iPhone cases that will come in most every colour under the sun by way of the exotic options, as well as others that come in the luxury house’s iconic monogram, from regular Monogram Canvas with black trim to the new Reverse Monogram. There’s even one in Black and White, which is love.

No word yet on their exact release dates or if they will come in iPhone7/iPhone7Plussizes, but I’m keeping my fingers (and toes) so crossed on this. One more thing before I sign off, you see the dangling luggage tag that hangs from each case? Look closely and you’ll see earbuds as well, which is a pretty swish way of storing them when they are not in use.

Louis Vuitton Petite Malle Bag

Louis Vuitton’s Petite Malle Bag gets an update for SS16.

The Petite Malle is a rectangular shaped bag that resembles the Maison’s iconic travel trunks. Measuring18 cm in length- the Petite Malle is indeed petite. Made of Satiny Epi leather with a eye catching rippling water print in blue, the bag comes with a long leather strap that can be adjusted or removed and carried as a boxy clutch. The bag features the house’s traditional clasp and a fold over lid top that gives the appearance of a vanity case.

Louis Vuitton Petite Malle Bag For Cruise 2016 Collection

The Cruise 2015 Collection? You ask…

But, but the Fall Winter 2014 Collection has just been released?

Oh yes, I know what you mean. It’s like going to a restaurant and when the main dish has just been served, they throw a dessert card in your face. Ouch! But that’s the way it works in the fashion world, nothing to do about it.

Please meet the Louis Vuitton Petite Malle Bag from the Cruise 2015 Collection, the evolution version of the Petite Malle Bag from the Fall Winter 2014 Collection. And oh boy, how they altered the design.

The original Petite Malle Shoulder Bag was made to mirror the classic trunks, which is lovely. But the new Petite Malle from the Cruise 2015 is nothing like that. I mean, it still got the iconic S-Lock, but the body has been totally modernized. It’s like a cosmetic box, but a more luxurious version.

While the original version comes with a strap, the latest version is beautified with removable chain straps. It can be changed into a clutch bag anytime, to help you go through the nights, with glam.

Finished with Epi Leather, it’s a true luxury item, make it a part of your collection. This is the first-look, meaning the prices and sizes has not been published yet. More information will follow soon.

Louis Vuitton Grand Prix Petite Malle

Categories:Louis Vuitton

louis_vuitton_grand-prix-petite-malleFirst, the good news. Ahead of its worldwide launch come late November, early December, Singapore is the first country in the world to have launched the Louis Vuitton Grand Prix Petite Malle, which Nicolas Ghesquière created specially for theLouis Vuitton Cruise 2015 collection. Set in Monaco (which explains the clutch’s racing-inspired design), you could say it was launched earlier in Singapore because of our upcoming Formula One Singapore Grand Prix which happens towards the end of this month.

Priced at SGD6900 each, the make and structure of the Petite Malle is the same as the F/W14 ones; you flip the clasp to lift the top, as well as have the option of using it with or without its additional shoulder sling. And as far as the design goes, it’s a combination of the Epi leather and the Malletage print, the pattern first printed onto the leather before it’s embossed.

And now for the bad news. The first 5 pieces that came into Singapore for this special launch have already been sold out, so the only way to get yourself one now is to head down to Louis Vuitton Island Maison Marina Bay Sands and put yourself on the wait list.

The classic House trunk from the 1800s has been zapped into a smaller, more compact version in the form of the Petite Malle Bag. We don’t blame Nicolas Ghesquière for being so upfront about his love for the brand’s classic pieces (and his desire to have them recreated). And in this collection, there’s an array of designs and canvasses (and skins, and…) to choose from! Timeless, indeed. Do you have a favorite among these pieces?

Malletage bags are pieces that don’t need any introduction. They speak for themselves, see?
